Student Internships & Volunteer Opportunities
The Center for the Environment works with students in arranging internships that often help them land a job after graduation. Catawba students have had internships with city planning and land management departments, land trusts, local companies that want to move toward sustainable practices, and non-profits that want to implement internationally recognized environmental management systems or earn the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED certification. One student even worked as an intern with the Architecture and Engineering Department at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
Volunteer Opportunities for Students
Students often get involved in the Center activities. They can help on the ecological preserve, coordinate volunteers, assist with social media, and help with conferences and special projects.
Opportunities to Teach
Students in Catawba’s Environmental Program have a wealth of opportunities to participate in the Center’s educational outreach to the community. They help develop and orchestrate programs for public and private school students on topics ranging from green buildings and air quality to lake ecology and conservation. Sometimes they go to area schools to teach; other times, grade school and junior and senior high students come to the Center and to the ecological preserve for summer camps or designated Environmental Science Days. Catawba students will play a key role in the Youth & Environmental Summit.
